Five Reasons Why Skateboards Stink and Longboards Rock

skateboards stink longboards rock
I didn’t ever think I would have to justify why longboards are hot and skateboards are not. But after over hearing some schmuck talking schmack talk about longboards, I felt like it was my duty to prove a point.
- Speed: Longboards make skateboards look like a fat kid who recently rolled their ankle.
- Cruise: Skateboards don’t cruise they rattle. Ninjas would use longboards as an accessory, they are so quiet and smooth.
- Skateboards are for the little kiddies: Longboards are a classic, I don’t think you can ever be too old for a longboard they suit everyone.
- Flow: Longboards make concrete turn into snow or waves. Skateboards are a one stop trick shop.
- Which do the ladies like better: Would they prefer a small, slow guy that jumps all the time. OR would they prefer a long, smooth, fast, cruisy guy? Enough said!

TRUE THAT!
I am a longboard/speedboarder straight out of vernon bc CANADA,
and LONGBOARDING kicks ASS on shortboarding.
Longboarding you can do all over town, Hot chicks dont hang out at the grungy skatepark with sweaty dudes who repeatedly bust their ankles trying to rotate their deck in the air,
hot chicks are out and about enjoying the summer,
what do you think they would like better? some one who can stop from going 60kmph to say hi, or some punk ass skateboarder with banged up knees and a loud rattling annoying and SLOW skateboard?
Hahaha AMEN to that brother!
[…] right? Check out Five Reasons Why Skateboards Stink and Longboards Rock over at New Zealand’s Skurfboards.com. Really? In New Zealand? Is there a big enough scene down there where they can afford to […]
You forgot number 6. Lack of ability: Longboards are a convenient excuse for people who can’t skate not to do tricks. “They suit everyone.” Exactly. Here’s a tip: Throw some 78a Sector 9’s on your “regular” (read: actual) skateboard and it turns into all of the wonderful things that you describe above, AND you actually have to have some skills to ride it, AND you can actually do tricks if you happen to come across a nice bank, ramp, ledge, etc. If you think smoothly and cruisingly flowing up to a bank and snapping a nice, quick ollie to front tail, 180 out, and flowing cruisingly away doesn’t impress the ladies, think again (and try not to be so narrow-minded and confrontational. Chicks hate that.). Oh, and Ninjas would obviously ride popsicles with soft wheels. They’re light, quiet, and portable. Ninjas do tricks, dude. They don’t cruise.
looks like somebody’s overcompensating here.
don’t be scared of the pool coping (saw you on youtube, no grind there either)
is flow french for can’t grind?
how about flow and grind before you talk
if you had #1 (speed) it would be hard to stay off the coping, no more straining for tiles
by the way the rattle comes from hard wheels (those would help in the pool, never seen anybody rip on softies, save ‘em for the blacktop)
if it’s you duty to prove point
prove on the board (if you rip nobody cares what you ride)
i don’t even know why i longboard (there is more room for custom griptape jobs though, that’s something to hate on)
most of my friends ride popsicles or wide square tails (you know who you are, Ty)
Nah, just injured, in a bad mood, and sick of laying around. I just thought they could have come up with better reasons why “skateboards stink and longboards rock”, that’s all.
Maybe YOU can’t ride fast on a short board… and try dropping a 122cm shallow-end wall on a 122cm board. It ain’t the meat buddy, it’s the motion.
this title actually means that skateboarders suck and longboarders rule. I am a skateboarder and i own a longboard so that means that i suck and rule at the same time. This is a paradox to me. How can i avoid suckness? just ride a longboard…..well how can i ollie on a curb and over small bumbs on my way in the city, how can i do a tailslide, how can i do a 360 flip., how can i enjoy my life as a skateboarder when i am limited in a certain way. Sure i can go fast and smooth, but i can do that on a regular skateboard too. To me that means freedom of expression. If i decide that i want to cruise, bomb hills or do just fs grinds in the pool …..here it is.. enjoy…do whatever you want ,says my mini shred. But my longboard would said: ” you cant crooked grind, you cant flip, you cant slide a rail”. That sounds like a prohibition common in a mainstream society. You cant…is the word i am trying to avoid when i grab a skateboard and roll. The world is there for you to take it, with no limitation……nosce te ipsum
you guys are barking up the wrong tree. You are separating yourselves from skateboarding! Wouldn’t it be better served to separate yourselves from popsicle sticks, since thats likely the real beef.
Its all skateboarding. The popsicle crowd just can’t see it, because they have to have magazines to falsely narrow down skateboarding for them.
You are talking crap…. or else you aren’t being clear.
pool skaters (on very short boards) in the mid 70s INVENTED flow skating… and one of those guys, also on a short board invented bombing and power sliding hills.
Obviously u refer to flip tricking popsicle riders.
get it right.
* I received this great response via email.
Thumbs up to Buddy Rawls.
“It all makes better sense to me now. Your view of skateboarding is what is shown in the US mainstream media (mags and videos). The mainstream skateboard market is filled with puprose driven products to maintain a profit in a booming industry, but they are morons and miss the mark badly.
Your 5 item list makes perfect sense, but ONLY when viewed through the narrow eye of the US popsicle stick market.
Outside of this narrowly focused eye of the mainstream view, it looks like you guys are trying to invent something that has been there all along, but renaming as “longboarding”.
Like I said earlier, you guys have to make the distinction against popsicles and one stop trick shops versus the varied and realistic approach to skateboarding that you all are doing. Make the US mainstream skateboard media into the idiots, not yourselves. Contrary to what you guys have read/seen, skateboarding is not popsicles and one stop trick shops; althought thats exactly what the moronic mainstream media wants you to think.”
Newsflash: if it has 4 wheels, two trucks and is attached to a piece of wood/carbon fiber/fiberglass and or any type of substrate, IT IS A SKATEBOARD.
It doesn’t matter what the size or shape it’s all 100% skateboarding.
The new issue of Concrete Wave is at the press…I’d be happy to send one to you so you can see that not all skate mags are 95% street skating.
cheers

Ya your right about the 1970 I was there and the bords where biger we invented the art of bording and now even in my 40es I can still do sick tricks with a longbord
dudes, i do both plus a little surfing, dont divide us all up, we all ride boards and thats rad, lets end it right there, we ride boards and NO MATTER WHAT TYPE, long or short. We are all equally epic ;]
stoke!
[…] previously mentioned that ninjas would prefer longboards over skateboards. So tell me what ninja would turn this board […]
i’m from Malaysia. I think this is ridiculous. Why wanna separate the family of skateboarding? We are one big family u know. Be it short popsicle boards, flow boards, carv boards, dowhnill boards, mountain boards, we are BIG man and why wanna do such jocks to seperate us all. Anyway it just a personal views..don;t fall on someone views so easily. he may have some personal reason why he or she hate skateboards rather than Longboards..maybe some 19 years old kid pissed him her off and then made this nonsense…cut the crap..we are one…we are not one with in-line…remember that…
skateboarding’s not about showing off what you can do in the air or on a rail, it’s about point A and point B, and how fast you get where you’re going. If you’re in the city, and you grind a rail or clear some stairs to get where you’re going faster, that’s cool, but if you’re gonna waste your summer at the skate park with a bunch of DC-wearing posers, then forget it. Most kids at the skare park are doing it for fashion. Look at their boards, they don’t take care of them, the bearings roll like they’re full of molasses, and the trucks are stuck in a permanent left turn. if they really cared about skateboarding, they would care about their skateboards. Not all short-boarders are bad, lots of em are cool, you just can’t tell them from the posers. At least we can all agree that Rip Stiks, and other lame caster board hybrid pieces of crap are for little kids. Watch what you say about in-liners Ipoh…
its all the same man.. i ride a longboard mini.. 27 in only.. and i rock!
I’ve been a surfer (Oahu, mids on small breaks) for 30 years. I’ve been a street-skater for 20 years. And now that my knees and ankles are in bad shape, I’d like to give casual longboard skating a try.
I found this article entirely too funny.
Some things never change I suppose. No matter what, skaters and surfers will always have in-fighting. Don’t sweat the small stuff and enjoy your life.
Aloha no ka oi.
Yeah…amm I was lookingup info about this paradox griptape and came across this page.
I believe people should be rolling more and not talk about it too much, specially not try to built up an argument about if I like mustard better on bananas than chili with jogurt…
Internet ruins minds, sk8 or die!
You guys dont get this. Its comedy man. Just chill
first of al haha it’s all good thats
funny and you longboarders got style
but the thing about skating
is that theres always a next level
theres always better that all skaters
strive for. the real spirit skaters
skate couse they wanna skate
it’s not for the chicks it just
to further improve ourselves
and just push till they cant push
no more
amen
