Original Skateboards, Derringer 28 Skateboard Review

The Derringer 28 from Original Skateboards is up for review today. Now before I received the board I was told numerous times “that the board is supposed to be ridden super loose, learn how to work with the looseness as opposed to trying to ride it like a normal board.” Honestly I had never ridden a board even close to the Derringer so I know I was in for a special treat.

How Did The Derringer Do?

The Original S6 trucks make the Derringer a carving freak. It certainly seemed to be created with surfing in mind. With this setup you are able to pump all day long, and turn at the sharpest angles with no worries of wheel bite. In fact within five minutes of being out on the street with the Derringer a random guy came up to me asking about the board and if it was meant to move like that. The wheelbase is relatively wide which keeps that “longboard” feel, whilst being a great sized board to carry round town. I was totally surprised at it’s performance in the skate bowl, even though it does not have a kicker its deep carving qualities allow you to glide around.

The Derringer Downsides?

If you are a carver at heart you would love this board but if not…the Derringer seems to be so focused on the deep carving and pumping that there is not much room for anything else. Bombing hills is certainly a no no, because it would give you wicked wobbles. I also felt that maybe the springs in the trucks were a bit to soft, making it a bit to tippy.

The Final Say

If your looking to spice up your quiver or really want that carving, pumping, surfing feel, then the Derringer is right for you. On this board you will out carve, out turn and out pump any other board on the market. If your a speed demon or just looking to cruise I wouldn’t recommend it. It is certainly not like any other longboard I have ridden which could be both good and bad, personally I like a bit of change!
