If you actually see good longboarders that have style and can cross step and slide and do manuals and grab tricks they are really cool. Shortboards are cool too. They both have different purposes though and are used for different reasons, longboards allow you to go places and do hills without wobbles. Shortboards allow you to do a cool stair set or the park and hit up some rails and do some ill flip tricks. I ride a 38 Pintail with a kick. I'm a freestlye rider. I can tiger claw into a 50-50 slide. Can't transition out very well. I think it's the type of riding to me. Like let's think of that rail for another second. A skateboarder (shortboarder) coule go up, ollie, rail slide, then ride away. Longboarder; boneless, tigerclaw, flattop something like that, rail slide, and roll away. Now let's say they were pros that did the tricks,the skateboarder would have looked a bit sketchy or not as flowing. But the longboarder would have looked more flowing but maybe not as impressive. I'm 36 and have 2 boards 1 freestyle with hard loud wheels for tricks and skateparks and a bigger Powell(GraffitiRipper) board with soft quiet wheels for cruising ruffer concrete and ditches. My bigger board can do all the same things a long board can plus tricks. I see longboarders skate by with helmets and knee pads wobbiling back and forth and all the girls laugh and then they see me on a real skateboard and their mouths drop open and then smile.
